1990 – 1995
The history of our company starts with the decision of three partners - Ing. J. Uhyrek, Ing. B. Nemecek, and Ing. M. Valek - to found a construction company with a focus on civil engineering, namely both new buildings and refurbishments. Thus, in December 1990, they founded GEMO OLOMOUC, spol. s r. o., and at the end of the first year of activity, the firm already employs 43 people.
The corporate motto, which still applies today, appeared in the first catalogue:
„The primary objective of our construction company always is an architecturally original and operationally practical structure with precision workmanship.“
How we fared
The result of the fulfilment of the corporate philosophy based primarily on the quality of work is the growth of the number of jobs in the first two years and since 1993 has been the obtaining of larger volume implementations, which significantly increases the company’s turnover.
The year-to-year annual turnover increase between 1991 and 1995.
The figures are in millions of crowns
In the first years, we focused on new buildings and refurbishments in the Olomouc Region. From the many implemented jobs, we picked the 13 most important ones.
The first and therefore key construction project in the history of our company was the renovation of a chapel in Loučany. In 1994 we successfully renovated and completed the new GEMO Hotel (now Trinity) in the centre of Olomouc. In the same year we won our first large construction contract – for building the District and Land Archive in Olomouc. New buildings followed: the administrative headquarters of OLPRAN and a primary school in Kostelec na Hané.
Evolution of the team
The company was founded by three partners in 1990. In 1994 GEMO already had 201 employees, which was a fivefold increase in only three years. The first headquarters of the company was located on Blanická street in Olomouc.

Vibratory pile drivers
Among other things, the company dealt in special vibratory pile drivers and micro-pile drivers and in façade insulation using the Austrian technology of GRANOLAN f. WOPFINGER.
The company’s transportation vehicles and machinery
The company created its own vehicle fleet for transportation of its employees and also its own fleet of machinery – the VUIS piling rig.
The company started to deal in implementation of turnkey civil construction projects including renovations.
GEMO started to provide services in the area of electric, sanitary facilities, central heating and metalwork.
The GEMO hotel
The hotel was the first of the company’s own investment projects, diversifying the business of the company by starting a hotel and restaurant business.
The creator of the first logo is Lubomír Dostál, an artist and poet from Přerov. Having been subject to several modifications in the last 25 years, the logo has retained its original character and colours.
The GEMO hotel
In 1991 the partners decided to turn a dilapidated building into a luxury hotel which would attract more visitors to Olomouc. The construction of the hotel mostly entailed renovation and partly an extension of the old building.
As it was one of the oldest buildings in Olomouc, built during the mid 14th century, with a listed status, the company had to face several challenges such insulating the building from ground water or dealing with the structural stress of the construction. Despite these challenges, the hotel was successfully completed and in 1994 the opening ceremony was held.
