In the period from 1996 to 2000 despite unfavourable external economic factors we managed to uphold the growing trend of the number of contracts; we successfully introduced new construction technologies and we worked on improving the company management system.
An important part of our portfolio were the projects commissioned by foreign partners, who appreciate the high quality of our construction work. GEMO became the largest building construction company in the region of Central Moravia.
How we fared
Since 1996 we have been executing contracts worth over CZK 100 million. At this time, however, the Czech Republic was hit by an economic recession, which influenced the overall number of contracts on the Czech market and led to a decrease in demand for construction works. In 1998 GEMO started implementing property development and investment projects by developing residential buildings in Horní Lán in Olomouc. During this period, the highest turnover of the company exceeded CZK 600 million.
million crowns was the highest turnover during this period.
The figures are in millions of crowns
In 1997 – 1998 the portfolio of the buildings we constructed started to change significantly. The number of large contracts awarded by private investors was growing, e.g.: building the OBI hobby market and Terno and MANA supermarkets or building production plants and facilities for Czech and foreign investors (SIWE, THONA, Český Telecom, Porsche Brno, Allianz Olomouc, Everlift etc.).
The most important buildings of this period include the residential complex in Horní Lán in Olomouc, the administrative building of GRUNDFOS in Olomouc, DIY market OBI Olomouc, the administrative building of Povodí Moravy (the Morava river basin agency) in Olomouc or the sales and service centre of PORSCHE in Brno.
Evolution of the team
The economic crisis accelerated the need for change in the system of the company management; responsibilities were transferred among the partners – all with an emphasis on eliminating the credit exposure of the company. Mr Jaromír Uhýrek became responsible for the company’s commercial policy.
